Introducing Wheelthrowing Focused Beginning Classes: Choose either Monday night with Mark or Thursday Mornings with Mindy:

This is a great class to get initial experience or as a refresher to brush up on developing skills. Students will learn to prepare themselves and their clay, throwing and trimming skills, and the basic necessities for making simple forms with the potter’s wheel. General Beginning Ceramics: Wednesday Nights

We'll go over all the basics to help you gain confidence in our Ceramics Studio, including slab rolling/forming, texturing, glazing, wedging, wheel throwing basics, and more!

In this beginner series we will go over: 

  • studio etiquette and expectations

  • slab rolling & forming

  • coils pots

  • pinch pots

  • texturing

  • getting started with glazing

  • wedging clay

  • wheel throwing basics

  • trimming

  • glazing basics

ARTIST INSTRUCTORS:

Mondays Wheelthrowing only, 6-9pm with Mark Terry, MFA MEd Emeritus Professor of Art & Design. A working professional potter and sculptor, he is happiest when up to his elbows in clay. Mark’s academic research focused on wood-fired ceramics, and for the last 20 years he has devoted much of his time outside the classroom to designing, building, and firing wood-fueled kilns. 

Wednesdays, 6-9pm with Anneliese Kiefer, who has teaching at the CCC since August 2022- specializing in our Beginning, Beg/Int and Teen Ceramics classes.

Our newest addition- Thursdays Wheelthrowing only 9am-Noon with Mindy Beauchamp, our newest instructor, local ceramicist excited to focus on Beginning Courses!

EXPERIENCE LEVEL: Beginners - No previous experience necessary. Ages 14-16 welcome to register for the workshop—contact our Studio Manager with any questions.

MATERIALS/SUPPLIES: Please make sure to purchase clay at the front desk! You can ask your instructor if you need to purchase a toolkit or not. All students need to purchase clay from the CCC - new 25lbs Cone 10 g mix are $16. You are welcome to wait until the first class to purchase if you want to discuss with your instructor. Other varietals available. We encourage all ceramics students to have their own basic tool kits but you can purchase later in the session if you prefer. They can be purchased anywhere (Amazon, Georgies, etc) but we have 8-pack tool kits available for $10. Add to your cart or purchase at the Front Desk.

ENROLLMENT COST: $190/6-week Session + Cost of supplies

Due to the popularity of our classes: please limit yourself to enrollment in one Adult Ceramics class. You are more than welcome to join multiple waitlists if classes are full!

  • This class is being kept at a max of 9 students to best serve the size of our Ceramics Studio.

  • If you exhibit signs of COVID19 or have been in contact with someone who has tested positive, we ask that you candidly report to us. We will ask you to self-isolate at home and will pro-rate a refund for any missed class.

Ceramics Studio Access Outside of Class Times: All other times, students must make reservations to access and work in the studio. Students will receive rebate codes via email that can be redeemed for free studio time during the course of their class, expiring two weeks after the final class.
